Visit from an Antarctic Explorer
Class: Class 11 (Year 5) Year: 2023 - 2024
Year 5 and 6 Visit from an Antarctic Explorer
Year 5 and 6 were fortunate to have a visit from Al Sylvester MBE. Al was previously a member of the RAF Mountain Rescue Team and he organised an exciting expedition to the South Pole. During the session, Al recounted in great detail about his expedition and he had everyone on the edge of their seats!
He then allowed some children to wear some of the kit he wore on his expedition. Throughout the session, Al linked his experiences to many of our school values. He discussed with the children the importance of teamwork and resilience. 'Never give up' was a key message which came across clearly.
The children were absolutely enthralled throughout and their listening and questions clearly displayed how much they had enjoyed his visit. Al has personally emailed Mrs Cooke to say - "pupils were impeccably behaved and that they asked such thought-provoking questions throughout our day together, please pass on my thanks to them all."
Well done Year 5 and 6 - you certainly showed our visitor how fantastic the children at Lowton West are. Many thanks to Mrs Cooke for organising this visit - it really was an inspiration to us all!
